In the UK, there are more than 7 million women aged 45-55 who are part of the workforce. The majority of these women will experience the menopause transition while they are working. According to a recent study by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in 2023, 59% of employed women reported that the negative effects of menopause had impacted their work. Almost 30% had taken sick leave due to their symptoms, and 23% had contemplated leaving their jobs because of these symptoms.
Furthermore, it was found that one in three women do not feel at ease discussing their menopause-related issues with their employer or line manager. The most commonly reported symptoms were psychological in nature, including anxiety, symptoms resembling depression, memory loss, panic attacks, loss of confidence, and reduced concentration, as reported by 67% of the women surveyed.
